deKay's Gaming Diary
Buzz!: The Music Quiz (PS2)
Played another "episode" with my wife this evening, and chose the long game. This made each of the rounds longer than in the short game (as you'd expect), but also added some more rounds.
I won. ACES.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)
I started the game at Weatherleah, and decided to head to Skingrad to progess the Nirnroot quest, as I had enough of the herb to do so, and it was just a quick cross-country job south from where I was. It didn't take more than a few minutes, but I found both a wayshrine and an Oblivion Gate along the way. Erk.
After speaking to Nirnroot Man in Skingrad, and finding he now wanted another 20 of them, I thought I'd head to Anvil and get another Mage's Guild recommendation (and also be near the place I need to go for the Grey Prince quest). Warped to Kvatch, and then set out West on foot. What's this? Two more Oblivion Gates?! In 44 hours play, I found just three. And now I find three in less than half an hour? Evilness abound!
Ignored them, though, and continued to Anvil, summoning Scamps all the way to help kill some bandits and some wolves, as well as to boost my Conjuration skillz.
The first building I found upon entering Anvil was in fact the Mage's Guild, and after buying loads of spells, I set out to do my task for a recommendation. I won't go into detail for fear of spoiling it all, but it involves a rogue battle mage, and a fight against him/her into which some daedra from a nearby Oblivion Gate, two other mages, and an Imperial Guard all got dragged into. And me, and my scamp, and assorted other summoned beings. ACES!
Then it was back to Anvil, and decided to explore the place and summon loads more scamps, which got my Conjuration skill up to 50, allowing me to summon other stuff, like a Skeleton Guardian. Ph33r mi P0W4Z!!
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
No! Margie is trying to move out! That will not be permitted. To try and convince her to stay, I sent her TEN letters, begging her not to move away from Cheese. I spoke to her loads as well, and told her not to go. She will stay. I hope!
Bought everything from Nook again too, and ordered a few more moons. I have about 1,700 points left before I'm a Platinum member. No turnip sellage today, although Nook offered me 132 bells each for them. I was tempted, in case that was my best for the week, but decided to risk it and wait for a better price.
Brain Age (DS)
No issues today either, meaning my 26 the other day was just some kind of blip. Or Satan possessed my DS, or something. Yes, that's the most likely explaination.
So today's Brain Age? A totally perfect 20, of course!
Buzz!: The Music Quiz (PS2)
I got this today from my brother. He'd bought it for my birthday, but that was a few weeks ago. Never mind!
So my wife and I played three Short Games. It was surprisingly good fun, actually. There were a few questions where neither of us had even heard of some of the artists mentioned, but that didn't really matter. Of course, I won all three games, although I nearly lost the third one and had to claw back victory in the final round.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Did plenty of stuff today. Aside from the usual moon and shopping shenanigans, I visited all my animals and talked loads to them. I was hoping to get another picture from one of them, but no. I'm "good friends" with most of my animals now, especially Friga, Nan and Margie, but none of them want to give me their picture. Stupid animals.
Lucky was sick again today, so got him some more medicine. I hope he dies. I also hope Camofrog dies too. He moved in today and annoyed me already. Why doesn't Nook sell weapons you can actually use? There's a Ninja Sword and a Master Sword and stuff, but you can't swing them round and slice animals up with them, can you? Useless.
Also useless was Nook's turnip price today - 63 bells. I hate him too, although I am just 2,500 points away from being a Platinum Member, and I have every faith that upon reaching that status, Nook and his annoying nephews will explode.
Brain Age (DS)
Aha! Much better today, and no silly 8 misrecognisation problems either. I'm sure the game just hates me sometimes.
Anyway. 20 seconds for Calculations x20, a new entry on the Top 3 for Number Cruncher, and a reasonable time for Maze Thingie gave me a Brain Age of 20. Hurrah!
Brain Age (DS)
TWENTY SIX? WHAT?
Rubbish. I can see why I got such a bad score (well, bad in comparison to the last two weeks or so, anyway), but it wasn't my fault. I did extremely well in Calculations x20 (17 seconds!) and the maze thing (second place), but then Number Cruncher simply refused to accept my number 8 for a good minute or so. I really should have just turned the DS off and started again, but no. STUPID.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Lucky was ill today, and was hallucinating. He said something about eating yummy fluffy clouds, which frightened me a bit, so I left him to die.
Also bought more moons, and everything in Nook's. Sahara was about today too, and I ran some errands for her and got a carpet. Sadly, it wasn't Citrus Floor, which I'm really desperate for, but can't find anywhere. Except in on of my animal's houses, of course. KILL THEM. No turnips sold either - 72 bells was offered.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)
Spent a while producing scamps and skeletons to raise up my Conjuration stats a bit, and then decided to go to Cheydinhal, since I'd never been there before and it's the location of the next bit of the Thieves Guild questline. To get there, I warped to Imperial City, and the set off East on foot. Had a few bandits to contend with on the road, but they were easily killed with the help of a scamp!
Explored Cheydinhal for a bit, and the second person I talked to furthered a quest from aaaaaaages ago, completely accidentally. I'd spoken to someone in Chorral, on my very first trip there, who had suggested they'd seen someone who looked like a Chorral local when they were in Cheydinhal. And guess who I bumped into? They turned out to be twins, and so the Jemane brother from Cheydinhal ran off back to see his brother in Chorral. I then went and talked to other people, and found the Mage's Guild.
I asked about a recommendation, and was told by the guild leader that I had to retrieve a Ring of Burden from the well out the back of the building. So I did, after talking to one of the other mages who helped me. Of course, the ring was bloody heavy, but I had a few feather spells and potions, so I didn't drown (unlike the last person who had been sent in to get the ring...). The guild leader had then vanished, but I managed to expose him as a dabbler in necromancy (a bad thing, it seems). Anyway, got my recommendation.
I then did another quest in Cheydinhal, involving going inside a painting, and killing some painted trolls with turpentine. And the help of my scamp, of course.
Finally (for that town, for now at least), I went and stole the artifact from the Chapel Undercroft that Armand from the Thieves Guild had asked me to. Unfortunately, I killed the guard there, meaning I had to pay the Guild a 1,000 gold fine. Tch. Never mind though - I had the bust of some woman's head, so took it back to Imperial City for Armand. Or rather, I would have done, if he wasn't hiding. Someone framed him for the theft! Seems there was a guard's plant in the Guild. I found out who, then planted the evidence on them. They were arrested, Armand came out of hiding, and I gained a rank in the Guild - and another achievement, and 10 more Gamerpoints! Had a sleep then, and went up another Level - to Level 8. Spent my points on Strength, Endurance and Intelligence.
But that wasn't all for the day! I decided to check up on the Jemane brothers in Chorral, so warped over there and had a chat. It seems they were separated when their home (Weatherleah) was attacked by ogres. They wanted to return to it, but didn't know where it was, or if it was still infested with ogres. Muggins here set out to find the answers to both questions. Didn't take long to find it, and the ogres there were soon slain. Went back to Chorral, and took the brothers to their home. And that was the end of that quest!
My play time on Oblivion now stands in excess of 43 hours. That's the longest I've played any game (bar Animal Crossing: Wild World) in quite some time. And I'm still nowhere near completion. Mainly due to me not following the main questline, but still.
Brain Age (DS)
Some absolutely stunning scores today (if I do say so myself), particularly on Syllable Count, where I beat the previous high score by a couple of seconds, and on Calculations x100 where I shaved 5 seconds off the top time.
Sadly, I didn't get a Brain Age of 20 over all, despite all that aceness. I got 21. Yeah, so it's not bad, but I did get first place on the scoreboards on one test, and joint third on both of the others so I have no idea why it decided to give me 21, when I did better than almost every single 20 I've had so far.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Today is Yay Day again, but I mostly ignored that fact and just got on with the important task of buying turnips and selling fruit to make money to buy more turnips. They cost 96 bells today, and I spent about 265,000 bells on them. Not loads, but I didn't want to break into my 10,000,000 again. I'd have had more, but all my money this week has been going to Nook for moons...
Speaking of moons, two arrived in the post from Nook today. Also had post from "Mom", one from Cesar (he's moved out - again), and also two from the Happy Room Academy. One of the HRA letters had a present of a Two Storey Model, since I've just got over 100,000 HRA points. Aces!
With the business of the day out of the way, I went and visited some animals, and complemented them with such phrases as "yuo suXX0r!" and "ACEBEST!!!".
Brain Age (DS)
Despite the lateness of the hour, and the lack of concentration I was suffering when doing the daily training (the less said about some of the scores the better), I still managed to not only get a Brain Age of 20, but I also got in the top three for one of my trials and tied (but not recorded) first and third in the other two. I am teh bestaz0r.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
K.K. Slider night tonight, so I popped over to the Cafe for a listen. He played "Agent K.K." for me, and it was so obviously trying to be a Bond theme I'm surprised Nintendo haven't been strung up for it. Mind you, "Rockin' K.K." (my wife's tune this evening) is blatently Jonny B Goode. Oh well.
As well as the "gig", I also sold all my turnips last minute for just 114 each. Not much of a profit, but at least I didn't miss out. Dug up my red turnip too, and added it to my collection of about ten million red turnips in my house.
Also bought everything off Nook again, and ordered four moons. I now have 4,300 points left before Platinumisation. After all that, I went and visited some of my animals, did some errands, and gave Frobert a shirt as he was complaining he was making his other one sweaty. Nice.
Brain Age (DS)
I regained my braneliness today, by managing to get another Brain Age of 20. I expect the 22 yesterday was just a "blip".
That makes 13 20s overall, and I've played every day for about 40 days now. Once I've hit two full months (filling the graphs, basically), and finished all the sudoku (of which I'm only 21% through), I will declare the game "complete".
New Super Mario Bros (DS)
With all the worlds technically "complete", I'm left with two tasks: get all the big coins (there are three hidden on each level), and spend them all (on opening gates, mainly).
Went through World 1 and World 2, and now have all of the coins there. I also have all bar those in the Tower and Castle in World 3 as well. Some of them have been pretty difficult to get too - this is obviously where the real challenge in the game lies.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Bah. Turnips were 47 bells today, and no-one is online with a decent price. Spanky was about, with 165 each, but I was hoping for 200+. Besides, my battery started to run out by the time I got there so had to leave pretty soon. Looks like tomorrow will be Waku Waku Turnip Day.
Didn't do a lot else, except moon/buy/fruit/water/visit. Margie the Elephant came over to see my house, and rated it 4/5. Nan only gave it 3/5 yesterday, so that's good!
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)
Started off by asking the Thieves' Guild bloke for another job, but him saying I needed to nick more stuff and sell it to the guy in Bruma. So I warped there, stole more alembics and retorts and stuff from the Bruma Mage's Guild and sold them on. For some reason, I didn't go back to the Waterfront and carry on the Thievery, but instead went returned to the Arena.
I seem to have honed my block-then-attack skills somewhat now, as I found most of the opponents a real pushover. As a result, I gained two more ranks (to Champion) pretty quickly. My last fight, against the Yellow Team Champion and two of her "friends" was quite interesting, as I had a boar on my side. Which was just as well, as he was the one that killed all the other fighters. Hurrah for wild pigs!
After that, I went to Skingrad to buy some nice spells from the Mage's Guild, and then popped over to Chorral to do the same. I then built up my Conjuration skills by casting Bound Gauntlets over and over, until I reached Level 25 - opening up the list of possible Conjuration spells I could cast.
I then spent a good 20 minutes producing skeletons and scamps out of thin air. ACES!
New Super Mario Bros (DS)
You know, this is the best platformer I've played in years. Lots and lots of years, in fact. Ten or more. Yeah, Sonic Rush was great, and some of the Sonic Advance games were pretty good, but this is fantastic. Everything about it is so right. Controls, level design, secrets, retro-ness and everything. ACES.
So today I finished off the two "secret" worlds - 4 and 7. By "finished", I of course mean "defeated the boss in the castle at the end", and not properly finished as there are several more routes, levels and gates to find/do/pass through yet. And the ten million big coins hidden around all the levels to grab too. For such a small game, it's certainly pretty big!
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
No turnip sellage today either, with Nook offering just 47 bells each for them. Looks like I'm going to run out of days to sell again this week. Mad panic tomorrow then, begging for people with good prices to open gates for me.
Dr. Shrunk paid a visit to Cheese today, and I learned how to display "approval". Sadly, I had to lose another gesture, so I deleted "distress". Clapping is ace.
Nan came round to visit my house, but complained I'd left all my stuff out. The only "stuff" I had out were red turnips, and I can't put them ayway even if I want to. I did try to make her into goat curry, but sadly that doesn't seem to be possible.
As well as all that, I did the usual "chores" - buy stuff from Nook, water red turnip, weed, sell fruit, visit animals, etc. I have a new animal today too - Bonnie the Bunny. I like her. She's dirty.
Brain Age (DS)
Another day, another test of BRANES. Although the training went well, even improving some of my scores further still, sadly my Age for the day was a little disappointing.
After my five days of 20s, today I got 22. Bah. I'd have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't have been for the DS misdetecting two 8s as 6s. Hate.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)
Back in the Arena this evening. And, well, it's a bit easy isn't it? I worked my way up to Gladiator rank (that's four more achievements and 40 more Gamerpoints) without any difficulty, but then stumbled on the round where you fight three prisoners at once. My main tactic of fireballing from a distance, and block-then-swipe up close falls down when being attacked from three sides at once. Tch.
Took a break from the fighting then, to buy some more spells (hoping to get a more powerful fireball or something). Found some great ones, but I don't have enough in the way of magicka in order to use them, sadly.
Warped over to Bruma, and bought more spells from the Mage's Guild there, before realising that the next part of the Thieves' Guild questline was open here. I had to steal 50 gold worth of stuff and take it to some bloke in the pub in Bruma. Some alembics and retorts from the Mage's Guild were plenty. With that complete, I went back to Imperial City and met the Grey Fox's right-hand man again at the Waterfront. He asked me to get into a guard tower and steal some gold and tax sheets from Hierogliphious Lex (or whatever his stupid name is) in order to pay back the poor people in the Waterfront area. It was pretty easy, even though it was full of guards. They just ignored me.
With that, I became a Footpad in the Thieves' Guild. Achievement/10 Gamerpoints Get!
Brain Age (DS)
More brain "fun" today. Did about half of the tests, and did pretty well on them all. No "8 issues" today either, which was good.
But you don't care about that, do you? All you want to know is How Old Is My Brain(TM) isn't it? 20! Hurrah!
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Quite a brief play this evening. Sold enough fruit to clean out Nook again (he must be loaded now), and to order yet another moon. I have 6,500 or so points left before becoming a Platinum Member in the loyalty system. Turnips were 94 bells today.
Had another bizarre moment when, after Nan told me that Lucky and Friga act more like brother and sister than friends, Margie then explained how cute it was that Lucky and Friga were together and they make a great couple. Eww.
New Super Mario Bros (DS)
Multiplayer only this evening, playing both random minigames and two player Mario vs Luigi mode. Both modes are actually really good fun to play, with Mario vs Luigi mode reminding me of the original Mario Bros (sans Super), and the minigames being a little like Mario Party. I won, of course.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
As well as my daily turnip watering, turnip not-selling (98 bells today), daily animal chatting and daily buying everything at Nook's, I've also added a new daily "chore" to the list - ordering moons from Nook. I got two yesterday, and bought two more today. Shame they don't sell them on sticks. That'd be ace.
Brain Age (DS)
No problems on the daily training tests today, and in fact, I managed to get a new high score on one of them. I don't bother doing all the tests each day now, I just do at least half of them, and vary which ones from day to day.
My Brain Age was, once again, 20. That's 4 days of 20 in a row!
Oekaki Puzzle Battle (DS): COMPLETED!
It seemed I had only 7 left to do, not 9. Clearly, I can't count. So I made an effort to finish them all off this evening, which wasn't that difficult as all bar the last one were really easy.
The last one was a golden butterfly. Or a moth. Or something like that anyway. Nice. GAME OVER!
Oekaki Puzzle Battle (DS)
Completed a few more Super Hards this evening. About five of them, in fact, none of which were especially difficult. In fact, one of them had 5 of the 16 squares completely filled. So much for "Super Hard", eh, readers?
That leaves me just 9 left to complete before I've done them all. ACES.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Today, I bought the moon. And then, I sold it again. Then I ordered another one. This may seem a little mad, as each moon costs 28,800 bells, but I've found it's a really quick way of bumping up Nook's loyalty points, getting me to Platinum Status much quicker. I have about 7,300 points left to go, now.
Also visited my animals, sold some fruit, watered my red turnip, and found EIGHT fossils in my town. That has got to be some kind of record, yes?
White turnips were 114 bells today. I didn't bother.
Brain Age (DS)
Hurrah! Another day, another Age of 20!
I'm still having issues with 8s though. Sometimes it doesn't seem to recognise them at all, even though I draw them in almost exactly the same way every time. Some people have said I draw them backwards, that is, I start and the top and go left, not right. I don't see how that is backwards, but anyway.
New Super Mario Bros (DS)
This evening, I played wireless multiplayer with my wife. And it's great! Most (all?) of the minigames have been stolen from Super Mario 64DS, but now that they're multiplayer, it seems a billion times better.
The Mario vs Luigi Star Battle Hyper Fun Happy Fighter II mode is great as well - being not entirely unlike the original Super-less Mario Bros in a way. Fun all round!
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Due to spending all morning either in bed or playing New Super Mario Bros, I didn't go Sunday Morning Turnip Buying. So, using the power of DS clock alteration, I magically made it morning again. Hurrah!
Didn't want my savings to dip below 10 million bells, so only withdrew 230,000 with which to buy turnips, which were 96 bells each today. I got loads of post as well - most of it from Nook (items I've ordered), but also got two from the HRA. One of them was a present - a model of a single storey house - for getting my HRA score over 70,000. In fact, it went up from about 51,000 to about 92,000 in just this week. It seems my tidying up over the last few days really made a difference!
My wife came over then, with a painting I didn't have. In return, I gave her a painting and a Country Guitar so she can pass that on to K.K. Slider next weekend. Also sold some fruit while she was around, and bought everything in Nook's again. Still need another 8,233 points there to become a Platinum Member, though.
Oh, and Cesar the Monkey has moved back. Except he hasn't - he's a different Cesar. This one came from Snokvill. Bah. I didn't want him. Get lost, stupid monkey. In other Animal News, it seems that Margie the Elephant is actually a boy. One of the other animals refers to Margie as "he", you see. Of course, he's a rampant homosexual as today he told me he'd thought of the "Four Somethings" he needs when he gets married, he just didn't know which boy he was going to marry. Just so you know who Margie is, here's a picture:

How very modern of you, Nintendo.
Brain Age (DS)
Did my daily run-through of all the tests again, doing especially crap on Reading Aloud. Managed a few new 2nd and 3rd placed records though, which is rare these days.
However, on Calculations x20 in the actual Brain Age test, the DS simply refused to recognise me drawing an 8. If it doesn't instantly recognise my numbers, I always immediately Erase it and try again, but I spent so long on it, drawing an 8 over and over, that I knew my time was going to be nearer a minute than my usual 20-22 seconds so turned the DS off in a huff.
HUFF.
New Super Mario Bros (DS)
OK, so with the game started (and completed) in just a few hours yesterday, I set about opening up all the pathways I'd missed - mainly with the aim of opening up Worlds 4 and 7.
It seems some of the pathways I missed first run through were, in fact, the "normal" routes, and I'd accidently taken secret exits and therefore detoured. Specifically, on World 6 I seem to have missed out almost the entire set of levels. So, plenty to do today then!
Some of the remaining secret paths were a right pain to find, and some required use of the Blue Koopa Shell power-up - a somewhat rare item, it seems. Cue loads of trying and retrying to get it from a random powerup item box in a Ghost House...
Anyway, with a few more hours jammed into the game, I think I've opened up all the secret paths. All of the levels within each world are now completed, but I haven't unlocked some gates which lead only to Mushroom Houses. I still can't figure out how to reach World 4 or World 7, however. Bah.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Just enought time to sell a bit of fruit, buy everything in Nook's, order a load more furniture, and then visit K.K. Slider.
This week, he played "K.K. Folk" for me, and after the performance I gave him the Country Guitar Wendell had given me earlier in the week. In return, he gave me a picture of himself. ACES.
Brain Age (DS)
Once again managed to be pretty successful at the tests today, although my Reading Aloud score was a bit crap. I don't take much notice of the score for that test though, as it's always artificially lowered by me anyway, as the DS can't keep up with my real reading speed and Dr Wossisface complains I'm going too fast.
And today's Brain Age? 20!
New Super Mario Bros (DS): COMPLETED!
Yes! Already! I thought it was actually going to end a bit sooner, what with reaching the castle in World 8, but oh no - there's more. Nothing very hard, however. I did like the find-the-correct-route bit in the "real" final castle. Very Super Mario Bros!
So now it is completed, in about two and a half hours play, what next? Well, the other half of the game, of course! Loads of levels (and two entire worlds) left to unlock!
And, I can now play as Luigi! What more can I ask for?
New Super Mario Bros (DS)
It's the first proper 2D Mario game in 15 years. And it arrived today. And... it's fantastic!
Spent about two hours on it so far. I'm going to rip through it to the end first, before going back and unlocking everything and finding the secrets, as that way you get the "save anywhere" option.
So far I've made it to World 6. Of 8. Yes. Already. I didn't unlock World 4 though, so I've only really done four, not five.
But it has been great so far. It's just like Mario 3, only with Mario 64 moves and graphics, and in 2D. Only... different somehow. It's like a retro game and a new game both at the same time.
It is very easy so far though. I've died only three times - once down a hole, and twice on a mole-in-a-tank boss. I'm hoping World 8 will be a bit more of a challenge.
Amped 3 (360)
Completed both rounds in "Ski Patrol", the Russian game show. One involved rescuing a stranded skier, then taking him on a sled somewhere, and the other was about following a pro boarder, pulling tricks in certain places.
After that, I spent some time on other challenges, bumping up my points so as to open up the next bit of story - which was to find the Tram Pass, which in turn opened up another area of the mountain.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Aside for selling a bit of fruit today, and collecting my letters (one of which was a present from the Town Hall telling me I have over 10,000,000 bells in my account), I spent a while clearing out my house. I was completely out of space to put anything, so packed my Snowman stuff away, sold a load of clocks and non-matching items, and went and ordered all the fruit furniture from Nook. While I was in Nook's I cleaned him out of everything too. Turnips were back down to 117 bells today, so I was pleased I managed to sell yesterday.
I did, however, find out that Carol in Catland had Nook buying for more than 500 each in her town, about half an hour after I'd sold all mine. Grr!
Brain Age (DS)
No problems with the tests again today, and even beat another score. Didn't bother with all of them, but only missed out two (Calculations x100 and Syllable Count).
Today's Age, however, was a slightly disappointing 23. I mis-counted one of the questions on Number Cruncher, I think.
Brain Age (DS)
Didn't really have a lot of time today, so I didn't bother doing all of the tests. Managed the Calculations x20, Triangle Math(s) (on which I beat the top score), Reading Aloud, Head Count, and a couple of others.
Then I did the Brain Age test, and managed to get another Age of 20! BEST.
Amped 3 (360)
Achievement Unlocked! 70 Gamerpoints Get! Ace!
I "finished" the first mountain (although, I expect I'll be back) by chasing some people on boards, then on a snowmobile. Now I've been kicked out of my "crew" because the crew leader bloke (J-Dog) is in cahoots with the bad guys. I found out, so I'm out.
On "Snowbird" Mountain, I met some strange pig-head bloke, who wanted me to do stunts for his advertising agency. Cue plenty more totally bizarre cut scenes, as the product adverts are shown. "Live fast, die young, leave a great smelling corpse!" and such. Bananas.
Then I seemed to join a Russian game show, hosted by two hands with faces drawn on them. And one has a beard. I'm honestly not making this up.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
293 bells for turnips! ACES. Sold all mine, making more than 3,000,000 bells in total. With my new-found wealth I finally paid off the last mortgage on my house. I hadn't bothered paying the almost-1-million previously, as I didn't see the point. Besides, I wanted to reach 10,000,000 bells in the post office, which I managed today.
Also sold some fruit, but not enough to clear my trees even slightly. I had some visitors today too, including my wife and Red, who both came to sell turnips. Red was gay at me.
Oekaki Puzzle Battle (DS)
Just one puzzle today, taking my Super Hard remaining levels to just 12. This one (a mini tulip or possibly some corn) was pretty easy, although it took a while to complete.
Amped 3 (360)
Oh my. This game is messed up. I don't know what the designers were on, but the result is one of the most bizarre things ever. It's like a cross between SSX, The Magic Roundabout, Homestar Runner, Seanbaby and Dude, Where's My Car? No, really.
I mean, one of today's tasks was to get a high score on a stretch of mountain. Fair enough, yes? Except that it was presented by what appeared to be a character from an obscure SNES role playing game. And then there was the "Meet Sebastian" story. He made out that part of the mountain was some sort of ancient snowboarding god worshipping ground (or something) and gave me tasks to perform to "better my soul" and "appease the gods". Like, whoa. Awesomeness, dude.
Completed quite a few tasks, and progressed the story to the point where I gained the Night Pass. Then some strange Shaolin Showdown-type thing happened, and I now need to chase some people around.
Oh! And the J-Dog rap cutscene! My god, that was ace.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Another quick day's play today. I am beginning to tire of the game now, but it has served me well for over five months, with me playing almost every single day. It's just between daily Crossing and daily Brain Age, I'm missing out on the twenty billion other games I have. Perhaps I'll make it six months and then call it a day.
Anyway. Turnips were 74 bells today. I did, however, manage to bump into Wendell (finally!) and so gave him a red turnip. In return, I got given a Country Guitar, which no doubt needs to be passed on to K.K. Slider when I see him on Saturday.
Sold a bit of fruit and some fossils, as well as some junk in my house I needed to ditch in order to make way for more gyroids. Watered my red turnip too.
Brain Age (DS)
Although I managed to completely mess up Time Lapse today (getting a time of almost three minutes), mainly due to mixing up the big and little hands in some kind of primary schoolchild way, I did pretty well overall.
My best score was on Syllable Count, where I managed to finih it in 36 seconds. It was the only scoreboard I wasn't at the top of, with the previous best being 42 seconds or so. ACES.
To top it all off, my Brain Age for the day was once again 20.
Amped 3 (360)
Yes. I know I didn't like the demo, OK? But I bought it anyway, OK? It was only £18 at Play so it was rude not to. Or something. Besides, my Oblivion disc was lonely.
Imagine my surprise then, when I really enjoyed playing it. Did a few "missions", including carving to impress someone, and then "doing" Weinerland, which was hilarious. I think I just need to come to terms with this not being a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game, and learn the controls, and then I'll be enjoying it even more!
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
On today's list: water red turnip (check), find out white turnip prices (check - 80 bells each), visit all my animals in the hope there might be some belated birthday gifts (check - there wasn't), dig up gyroids as it rained yesterday (check - found three), buy everything in Nook's (nope - couldn't be bothered), harvest all ten million fruit in the town (nope - I sold about 25,000 bells worth, but couldn't bring myself to do the rest).
I'm not too fussed about fruit this week, as I'm hoping to make a few million on turnips. If I do, the 400,000 or so I could make from fruit would pale in comparison!
Brain Age (DS)
Another day, another brain workout. It was having problems recognising the number 8 in many of the tests during today's session, which made my times in Calculations x20 a bit rubbish, and as a result my overall Brain Age was 24. OK, so better than yesterday, but I want more 20s! Pah.
Oekaki Puzzle Battle (DS)
Three more Super Hard puzzles completed today, meaning I have just 13 left to do now. There's still a good chance I might have it completed by the end of the well. Well, a slim chance. Maybe.
Oekaki Puzzle Battle (DS)
With all of the Hard puzzles complete, I had only Super Hard to work through. I managed three of them in double-quick time, mainly as they were all so easy. In fact, one of them (which turned out to be some kind of magic staff) had 6 of the 16 squares completely empty, and 8 of the other 10 could be filled in instantly with no deduction required. That leaves me with just 16 Super Hard puzzles to do, meaning I'm about 72% complete. BEST.
Brain Age (DS)
Didn't play all of the training thingies today, as I didn't have a huge amount of time, was a bit tired, and since they're all unlocked now it can take a fair while to get through them all. My age for the day, however, was 25. Bah.
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
I've just noticed that my post about Oblivion yesterday was my 1000th post to this Gaming Diary. That's 1000 posts, in almost exactly 500 days. So two gaming sessions a day. Cripes.
Did very little in Animal Crossing today. I got about a million (well, three) letters with presents in them for today is my birthday! Hurrah! Robin, Margie and Friga (my "bitches" then) all sent me letter and crap presents. None of my other animals, even the gay ones, could care less about me, it seems. Rubbish.
Margie even greeted me with a birthday cake the second I left my house. ACE!
What wasn't ace, however, was the 83 bells Nook offered me for turnips. I hate him.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)
Decided to join the Arena. Er, so I did. Warped to Imperial City, found the Arena, and signed up. Was a bit annoyed at the armour juggling I had to go through in order to wear the proper Arena "uniform", but was soon up and fighting. Achievement Unlocked! 10 Gamerpoints Get!
The first three opponents were pretty easy - a woman with a sword, a guy with an axe, and then an archer. I found that shooting fireballs at them from a distance, then slashing their faces in when up close, worked pretty well. After those three, I rose in rank from Pit Dog to Brawler. Achievement Unlocked! 10 Gamerpoints Get! Again!
Fought one more person then, who could have been of either sex, but was still pretty easy to kill. I could really do with a better weapon than the Blades Katana I have currently, though. It is a bit crap now, and doesn't really cut it (badumtish!) any more.
Uno (Demo) (360)
This appeared on the Xbox Live Arcade downloads today, so I downloaded it. Only had the one game, which consisted of four hands, and I lost. I'd won the first two hands, then Purple won the third, and then someone else won the final hand. Even though I'd won two and he'd won one, his points from that one hand (290) were way ahead of my total (161). And, since you needed 250 to win, I didn't. Pah.
Test Drive Unlimited (Demo) (360)
I like the way this title is worded, as it clearly isn't an "unlimited demo", as it quits after about ten minutes play. That aside, and the multitude of horrible bugs (you can't drive on sand, as you fall through it, and policewomen consist entirely of just a wig moving around the floor) ignored, then it can be considered pretty good fun.
I couldn't actually find all that much stuff to do (one time trial seemed to be it), but I had fun doing doughnuts and ramming other cars off the road. Bizarrely, your car doesn't ever seem to get damaged, but others do. Anyway, if there was more to it, and the bugs are removed, I'd consider a purchase of the full game.
Brain Age (DS)
Mr Brain Doctor Man reminded me it was my birthday tomorrow. As if I'm some kind of idiot and didn't know. I'm clearly not any kind of idiot, as I regained the Brain Age of 20 crown today! ACES.
Completed a couple of sudoku too.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)
Explored Leyawiin for quite a while today, and opened up a few quests (although haven't actually started any). Tried to get people to train me in assorted things, but no-one could as I was either a higher level than them, or I'd "reached my training limit for my level". Bah.
Concocted a load of potions, and finally found my tenth (and 11th and 12th, in fact) Nirnroot for that quest in Skingrad waaaaaaay back when. There seems to be loads of Nirnroot around the water in and near Leyawiin. Wonder if it grows back?
After talking to just about everyone, I warped to Chorral for no reason other than to try and get the Mages to sell me some acebest spells and train me, only to find they didn't have any for sale. Poo. I did, however, notice that they'd restocked all the barrels and tables and boxes and crates and cupboards and shelves and lecterns and desks and sacks and pots and plates and chests and everything, so there's food and potion supplies galore!
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Turnipage Maximum! Bought about a million bells worth of turnips for 108 bells each. That's not far off 10,000 turnips. I struggled to find somewhere to put them all as well.
Sold a bit of fruit too (the bloody stuff has almost all grown back), and got shut of some fossils as well.
Geometry Wars Evolved (360)
Just one game unpon returning from the pub, and I beat my high score! I'm on 227,000 points now!
